It’s that word that nobody likes. No one wants to even bother with it because, well, why? Why do people not forgive? Is it a pride thing? Is it because you don’t want to have to confront the person? Forgiveness.
No matter what someone does to you, the right thing to do is to forgive. If your husband cheated on you, if your best friend is no longer your best friend because of something that he/she did, forgive them. The worst thing to do is to hold a grudge. Think of it this way, you are a sinner just like them. They make a mistake and it’s the end of the relationship, well friend, you make mistakes too every day. I make mistakes myself. Why? Because just like you, I’m not perfect.
Jesus died, not for the perfect people, because there is none. The Bible even says in Romans 3:10, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” Jesus died for you, my friend. God loved the world so much that He gave His Son to die for you and me…John 3:16 says. Jesus died for all, the murderer and the one who cheats on a test. He died for the terrorists. Most importantly, He died to forgive. He died to forgive you of your sin so that you don’t have to go to hell. He paid the price of sin which is death so that you don’t have to. You just have to believe on Him with your whole heart and confess your sin. Then, you have to follow in His steps and live for Him all the days of your life. Yes your flesh will die, but every human being has a soul and spirit. That’s what will live forever if you accept Christ. Jesus forgave you, so why shouldn’t you forgive that person who He also forgave? We all make mistakes, but forgiveness always has its door open wide. You just have to step in it.
So, the next time you say you won’t forgive someone because of the wrong they did to you or a loved one, think about what Jesus did for both of you. Then, simply forgive. What would Jesus do (WWJD)? He would forgive, because He already has.
