Over the weekend, I attended my fourth Night of Joy event at Disney. One of the bands I was looking forward to seeing was Hillsong Young & Free because I had never seen them live, and one specific song stuck out to me. That song is called “When the Fight Calls.”
“When the Fight Calls” talks about a person who is going through troublesome times and how that person responds to his/her situation. There was a part that made a specific proclamation which stood out and made me really think.
Here are the lyrics:
“I won’t let the storm weather my heart
Won’t let the darkness beat me down
Sing in the night my hope alive in You
I’ll walk through the fire and not get burned
Pray in the fight and watch it turn
Jesus tonight I give it all to You”
In the fourth line the person is saying that he/she will “walk through the fire and not get burned.” This reminded me of the incident in Daniel chapter 3 when Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were thrown into the fiery furnace by King Nebuchadnezzar for not worshiping his idols. While they were in the scorching flames, a fourth form seemed to have been with them. Nebuchadnezzar said, “…Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”
When we stand up for our faith, we will face opposition. Jesus clearly said to Peter, James, John, and Andrew in Mark 13:13, “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were persecuted for their faith in the God (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit), but He was with them. As Christians living in this world today, we will also face persecution and hatred because of our faith and walk with the Lord, but He promises that He will always be with us in our trials.
In health issues, loss, fear, doubt, etc., Jesus will also be with us. Psalm 121 is a perfect example that tells us who our help comes from. He is our strength when we are weak. When we go through these tough times, we can either throw ourselves a pity party, or we can pray in our fight and watch God work as He uses our situation for the good that gives Him ultimate glory.
Having Jesus as our Lord and Savior is never easy, but we can hand our situations to Him and watch ashes turn into beauty. Don’t let your storm weather your heart. Stand strong, seek God, and pray to Him. When darkness seems to hover over you, look to the Light that shines in all wickedness and sorrow. Our hope is alive in Jesus. He is our ONLY hope, in fact. Rest in knowing that just like God was with the three men in the fire, He too will be with us and get us out of our lowest pits safely, and when we face opposition, know that you still have one friend who will never abandon you…your friendship in Jesus Christ.
